The Pope doesn't care about offbeat headwear - it's part of his job. Yet Francis, who has already proved he's not your traditional Vicar of Christ on earth (he's being sort of nice to gay people, after all), continued to freshen up the papacy by donning a firefighter's hat on Wednesday during a slope around St Peter's Square.
"Shall I wear it?" he asked a group of volunteer firefighters, bending down from the Pope mobile. One replied "yes", God approved and Francis stuck it on his sacred suede.
