A 10-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a bus.

Emergency services were called to the Garston-bound carriageway of Speke Road, Liverpool, at about 12.30pm yesterday to a report that a bus had run over a child.

A police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police can confirm the 10-year-old boy involved in the collision in Speke has sadly died at Alder Hey Children's Hospital."

A police family liaison officer has been appointed to look after the boy's parents, police said.

The driver of the bus stopped at the scene and has been assisting police with their inquiries.

A police investigation into the collision is under way and witnesses are asked to call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 5444.
