The Mirror reports that the 40-year-old star is being chased by TV bosses after Eamonn Holmes reportedly turned down the offer to present the troubled show.
An insider told paper: “The mission to hire new blood continues apace. Daybreak is a big problem.
"Dermot may have no breakfast experience, but he’s a favourite with ITV chiefs.”
Lorraine Kelly is also rumoured to be leaving 'Daybreak' in a shake-up of the breakfast show in a bid to improve viewing figures.
Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Dermot would be guest hosting 'This Morning'.
The star will front the ITV daytime show for a week in January with Holly Willoughby while usual host Phillip Schofield is away.
