Two young men who died when their car hit a tree have been named as Nottingham Trent University students Janaid Shafiq and Abubakr Ahmed.

The 19 and 22-year-old were travelling in a silver Vauxhall Corsa, believed to be in convoy with a blue Audi, when they collided with a tree in Sneinton, Nottingham, at around 11.20pm.

Two men aged 21 and 24 were arrested on suspicious of death by dangerous driving and bailed pending further enquiries, police confirmed.

A spokesperson for the university said: "It was with great sadness that we learned about the deaths of our two students. They were both very well liked and our immediate thoughts go out to their families, to whom we would like to offer our sincere condolences at this very sad time."

Nottinghamshire Police are now appealing for information about the crash and can be contacted on 101.
