It’s just your usual church raffle - meat hamper, beginner’s crochet kit, AR-15 semi-automatic rifle...
Later this month Grace Baptist Church in Upstate New York is handing out the military grade weapon to one "lucky" attendee of an event being held to show support for hunters and gun enthusiasts, who the church’s Pastor claims have been "viciously attacked by the antichristian socialist media and antichristian socialist politicians the last few years".
Presumably Pastor John Koletas is referring to the backlash over the savage deaths of 26 people in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012, or the equally brutal destruction of 12 people in the Aurora cinema shooting in Colorado earlier that year.
Koletas, who has been a vocal advocate of gun rights in the US, is not adverse to mixing the Second Amendment "right to bear arms" with the tenets of his Baptist faith, claiming, "Our country was built with the King James Bible and the gun."
"I'm just trying to be a blessing and a help to the gun owners and the hunters and give away a free AR-15," he told a local newspaper. "It's the right thing to do."
