20 Pictures Of The World's Largest Democracy Going To The Polls

Voters have headed to the polls in the final phase of India's marathon election.

Hardliner Narendra Modi is expected to lead his Hindu nationalists to victory after 10 years of Congress party rule as the bitterly fought mammoth election came to a close.

Voter turnout over the nine-phase vote has hit a record high of over 66%.

The previous highest voter turnout was registered in the 1984–85 general elections, when some 64% of eligible voters showed up to the polls after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated.

Here's our pick of some of the most stunning images showcasing the turnout so far.
