Ukip has been sucked into yet another race row after a parliamentary candidate compared rapper Tinchy Stryder to a Freddo chocolate bar.
Nathan Garbutt, who is hoping to oust Labour MP Yvette Cooper, made the controversial comparison after someone reportedly posted an image of a man fleeing a hippo, in a mocking reference to Mr Stryder and his I’m A Celebrity co-star Gemma Collins.

Garbutt, who is the party's vice chairman in Yorkshire, responded: "Hopefully Gemma won’t think Tinchy is a Freddo when she gets hungry.”

Garbutt insisted that the comparison was "harmless fun" mocking Collins for complaining about being hungry while on the ITV show, and he only chose a Freddo due to Stryder being 5ft 5 in height.
