NASA astronaut Terry W. Virts has tweeted a stunning picture of the United Kingdom from the International Space Station showing the UK blanketed with a giant aurora.

The image shows the UK at night, while being blanketed with a huge aurora formation. While it would have been impossible to see from down here on Earth, Virts was given a front-row seat to the display
It's rare to see the UK pictured with such clarity, especially from the ISS with weather formations, snow-topped mountains and rare phenomena usually being the targets for the astronaut's cameras.
Along with the United Kingdom, Virts was able to capture a cloud-covered Scandinavia looking no-less pretty thanks to the halo of green light that's covering it.
