Beautiful Pictures Show Newly Created Volcanic Island Off Tonga

New Volcanic Island Off Tonga Pictured For The First Time

These remarkable pictures show the newly formed volcanic island created following an eruption close to Tonga’s man island of Tongatapu. The Island, which started forming in January, is around 800 metres in length, and was photographed by GP Orbassano, a hotel owner who visited the island over the weekend. Orbassano scaled the island’s peaks with his son, looking down into the crater.

Speaking to Radio Australia's Pacific Beat, Orbassano said: “We had a beautiful view of the volcano, which inside is now full of green emerald water, smelling of sulphur and other chemicals. The view was fantastic.”
