Dennis the dachshund doesn't look like this anymore.
He would struggle to walk with his tiny legs and massive belly, and when 26-year-old nursing student Brooke first saw him, she knew she had to force her neglectful family member to give him up.
"I couldn’t believe it," she said. "I wasn’t even sure what breed of dog he was supposed to be because he was so large."
But now Brooke has put him on a diet of real doggy food and lots of walks. The perky pooch is now a slender 12 pounds.
Having lost more than 75% of his body weight, the sausage dog needed several operations to remove excess skin because he kept tripping over.
"In the beginning, you could tell he was very depressed, that he really didn't feel good at all," Brooke said.
"After he lost weight, this bossy little demanding man popped out. He's into everything, he wants to play with everybody."
A true inspiration to us all.
