'X Factor' Bosses Plan 'Exciting' Changes To 'Format And Judges' For Next Series In A Bid To Take On 'Strictly Come Dancing'

X Factor’ bosses are apparently planning a huge shake-up to revamp the show for its upcoming 12th series, in a bid to try and take viewers from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

Although last year’s series saw the shock return of Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini to the judging panel, as well as the introduction of Mel B, it seems producers are still keen to keep things fresh, and are planning some huge twists for when ‘X Factor’ returns to screens this summer.

Executive producer Richard Holloway has promised some “exciting changes”, telling The Mirror: “The name of the show will stay the same but we are looking at format and the judges.

“We have been making the show for 10 years and to make it popular you have to refresh the show. You need to look at every aspect and move with the times.”

However, while it might sound as though no judge’s spot on the panel is safe, one name you can probably count on returning is Simon, with Richard adding: “It is safe to say Simon is staying.”

He went on to address the show’s long-running rivalry with ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, who thrashed ‘X Factor’ in the ratings battle last year.

“There is an ongoing battle with ‘Strictly’,” he explained, “On overall volume they beat us last year. It has been a few years since we beat them on overall volume.”

“Let battle commence, but we would love to beat them.”

Last year’s ‘X Factor’ winner, Ben Haenow, secured the coveted Christmas number one spot with his track, ‘Something I Need’, although he wasn’t the only success story from this year’s series.

After wowing the entire nation with her interpretation of ‘Uptown Funk’, Fleur East has also been signed to Simon’s Syco record label, and is tipped to be releasing her first new music later this year.
