Laso Schaller Sets New World Record For Cliff Dive Of 58.8m

We Dare You To Watch This Record-Breaking Jump Off A Waterfall

Laso Schaller, a canyoneer and high-diver, has set a new world record for waterfall diving after jumping 58.8m in Maggia, Switzerland.

The adrenaline junkie, wearing a camera attached to his helmet, captured incredible footage of the event, as he jumped from the cliff face, taller than the leaning tower of Pisa.

The Brazilian born 27-year-old travelled at speeds over 100 mph and spent three and a half seconds free-falling during the stunt.

The cliff was almost 10-foot higher than the leaning tower of Pisa

Lots of preparation was required to allow the jump to take place safely. First, Schaller and his team built a platform to give him a clean, controlled exit, with enough projection to clear the rock wall.

Secondly, they explored the area with scuba gear – and placed six tanks in the pool to aerate the water and soften the landing.

Finally, they did a number of rock drops – timing the landing and seeing the fall line.

Despite the height, Schaller didn't seem concerned, he told Redbull: “Once you get above 25m, everything starts to look and feel the same, the only difference is the airtime.”

The dive took place in the Italian-speaking Ticino area of Switzerland, where there are over 150 descendable canyons, with countless waterfalls. The Cascata del Salto is the biggest, which is why Schaller chose it for his decent.
