A Tory MP caught laughing during today’s tax credit debate has been branded “obscene” and “disgusting” on Twitter.
Kwasi Kwarteng, Conservative MP for Spelthorne, was caught on camera while his colleague Alan Mak spoke in favour of the proposed cuts to tax credits in this afternoon’s Commons debate.
While Mr Mak was claiming failure to support the cuts would burden future generations with a high level of national debt., Mr Kwarteng was clearly entertained by something, causing him to laugh raucously.
Some Twitter users were not impressed by the Eton-educated MP’s antics.

However, some users could not see what the fuss was about:
@owenjbennett Get a grip you fool. MPs on both sides are known to talk about other things between themselves.— Notch Johnson (@SocialismIsDead) October 20, 2015
The debate on the proposals was a highly-emotional affair with some Tory MPs joining with Labour and SNP rivals to criticise the plan.
Heidi Allen, Tory MP South Cambridgeshire MP, used her maiden speech to condemn the cuts and accused Chancellor George Osborne of “betrayal”.
