Social media was abuzz on Monday with users coming out in strong support of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, with many saying that having extramarital affairs was not a political scandal, like in the US.
It comes after the presidential hopeful was threatened with a "sex scandal" that were seemingly aimed at derailing his political ambitions.
"I think we are going to see more of this. We saw it happening in 2007, [people] were utilised to target certain leaders within the [ANC] and we are seeing a repeat," Ramaphosa said.
"I will take full responsibility [but] I will not be deterred." Cyril Ramaphosa
Ramaphosa did what most South African politicians seldomly do -- he manned up and promised to bounce back.
"Claims have been made against me. I am able to say that this is not going to deter me. Where I have made mistakes, I will take full responsibility [but] I will not be deterred."
South Africans on social media have been in crossroads with the Ramaphosa email leaks and have already sparked the debate on whether he will be an appropriate president for the country. Some, however, have defended him and claim the "smear campaign" against are just political tactics to tarnish his reputation.
