Change Is The New Status Quo

We are living in a time of great change, so great indeed that I do not know whether to text, email or IM my best friend, I have the choice of all three but the way we are communicating is changing so fast that any which one is a good guess, or all three? Just to make sure she gets it.

When the ConDems came into power there was great shock at the speed at which they put their policies into place, pushing and shoving bills through parliament with a brutish urgency.

But with change comes trouble, you change your shoes and you get blisters, you change the media people go to prison, you change society you get riots and if you change your government you will get bloodshed.

It seems that all over the world people are desperately trying to execute change either against or with the times and whatever shape it takes they are literally fighting for it. Remember Tahrir Square in Egypt, or Tunisia, Bahrain or Yemen? Now it's Green Square in Libya, and the ball keeps rolling on.

When you are in the midst of something it's hard to remember what came before and even more difficult to visualise the future but if we were going to speak about the butterfly effect we'd have to call it the elephant effect, meaning the ripples caused by this tsunami of change will be felt for years to come.

As the rebels in Libya appear to gain victory over Gaddafi and Syria rumbles on it seems the tide of change is spreading across the globe and the individual is powerless, this is mass change.

From the 'lethal' cuts to and restructuring of the NHS to the build and culmination of the situation in Libya where baby steps may have been taken in the past there is no holding back.

As we race through technological progress, political change and social upheaval there is barely time to take a breath, reflect, compile a reminiscent top 100 and move on with closure.

Progress is the new plateau; change is the new status quo.
