At least once a day, you’ll hear about how tired a colleague is, or you’ll be telling them about your own lack of sleep.

Now, a new study - the first of its kind - has revealed that sleepless nights aren’t just a problem for individuals trying to stay awake through afternoon meetings, but are actually costing the UK economy a huge £40bn a year.

The research compares the USA, UK and Japan, showed that if the proportion of the workforce who are getting less than six hours sleep a night just increased that to seven hours, it could add $226.4 billion to the American economy.
