Ello

'Ello', the new barely-functioning anti-Facebook social network is garnering a lot of column inches right now.

One of the things people like most about it is the (relative) freedom from spam, mass media promotional strategies, PR fluff and celebrities.

Of course, there are celebrities - if you know where to look.

There aren't many, really, but there are a couple of goodies there -- as well as the actual Death Star. And given that even Miley Cyrus barely has 1000 followers, there's a pretty decent chance you can say hello and she'll respond if you get there quickly.

On the other hand there is definitely a chance some of these are fake. We'd flag up Ms Cyrus and Stephen Fry as examples where we might actually be looking at a spammer, a faker, or both.

There's no way of knowing - Ello haven't built a Verified tool yet. So either way, here are the top picks so far:

'Celebs' On Ello
Miley Cyrus(01 of06)

Miley Cyrus is a divisive pop star, former child actor and based on her recent collaborations with The Flaming Lips and her ridiculously psychedelic stage show, objectively awesome.
Stephen Fry(02 of06)

He needs no introduction, but this probably isn't him.
Wil Wheaton(03 of06)

The former Star Trek actor has morphed into the sort of internet celebrity who develops a huge following largely for being a decent person, with an interesting talent for social media. Oh, and Big Bang Theory, and his actual job, too.
The Death Star(04 of06)

Famed as the massive death machine which blew up Alderaan, the Death Star is these days leading a quieter life on Ello.
Xeni Jardin(05 of06)

Not a celeb, but certainly famous in blogging circles, Xeni Jardin is one of the original BoingBoing team, a fountain of wisdom and interesting web finds, an insightful writer and a good egg. Definitely worth the follow.
Robert Scoble(06 of06)

Famed as an unrepentant fan of using Google Glass in the shower, Scoble is one of the most famous tech writers and bloggers on the web.
