The X Factor's Countdown toChristmas weekend wouldn't have been complete without a performance from regular guest Michael Bublé - but judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Mel B didn't seem to be enthusiastic about watching the Canadian singer on Sunday's results show.

Bublé made a surprise appearance on stage when he joined American actress Idina Menzel to sing 'Baby, It's Cold Outside'.

Despite a confident start from the pair, Menzel proceeded to giggle her way through parts of the song as she forgot a few of her lines.

Clearly, this didn't go down well with Cheryl and Mel who failed to give the singers the normal X Factor treatment - a standing ovation - at the end of the performance.

While fellow judges Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh were the first on their feet to show their appreciation for the guests, the girls clapped and smiled from their seats - and fans on Twitter noticed.

I guess Cheryl doesn't have to worry about forgetting lines. As long as the track keeps playing. #xfactor

I'd like to hear Mel B or Cheryl sing Let It Go or Defying Gravity then decide Idina didn't deserve a standing ovation.

After the Twitter backlash, Cheryl tried to explain why she didn't stand up for the duo.

"Me and Mel were so engrossed in what was coming up, let's face it, it was Lauren versus Andrea," she said.

"We applauded them but sometimes it's difficult with my dress. Sometimes you have to take beauty over disaster. Apart from that we were having a really emotional conversation."

But this excuse hasn't gone down well either as both Cheryl and Mel were up off their seats during the show's first performance from US girl group Fifth Harmony.

With celebrity guests including One Directon, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith to perform on next Saturday's final, surely Cheryl and Mel will have to get up off their seats - no matter what they're wearing.
