Once the last stop for passengers on the Orient Express, the hotel has played host to a string of stylish celebs since it first opened in 1895, and has now reopened following a 23 million euro renovation.
Famous for being the first building in Istanbul to offer electricity and hot running water, making it a favourite among the city's elite and visiting big names, it's taken two and a half years of restoration to transform the hotel into a state of the art luxury destination once more.
Originally designed by Istanbul resident Alexander Vallaury, the hotel has kept its mix of neo-classical, art nouveau and oriental architectural styles, making it perfect if you fancy a taste of the city's fascinating melting pot of history, at the crossroads between Europe and Asia.
There's 115 rooms, with 16 suites named after the hotel's most famous residents, including Agatha Christie, who was said to have been inspired to write Murder on the Orient Express here.
Room 101 will be used as the Atatürk museum - Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Turkish Republic, also stayed here – and will be open to non-residents, while there's also a spa, with traditional Turkish Hammam
Overlooking the Golden Horn, in the Tepebasi district of Pera, you're not far from the Asian side of the Bosphorus, as well as the old quarter of Sultanahmet, home to the Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Grand Bazaar.
