Five Completely Flattering Summer Styles And How To Wear Them

Five Completely Flattering Summer Styles And How To Wear Them
|

Wanting to look and feel fresh, sun-kissed and trim in every summer trend is a given. And while we DESPISE the term "bikini season", a few pointers on the fashion front are always welcome. Especially when it makes dressing for your figure a breeze.

So here it is, a list of flattering styles (a gal's got to have choice) to opt for when updating your summer wardrobe. Try them on for size and do more than one at once for max effect.

1. Tailoring.

There is nothing sharper than a collared shirt this season, they were everywhere on the catwalk (Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney, Erdem) and the results are smart, sophisticated and sexy. Team with a blazer or boxy jacket to add definition.

2. Colour blocking.

Believe it or not going top to toe in a single shade is mega flattering, especially of you mix things up with texture. A linen top, gauzy sheer panelled pencil skirt and cotton bomber will look incredible in one colour.

If you refuse to do the all white trend (it's not for everyone) go for your fave pastel shades or stick to classics like navy or nude.

3. Off the shoulder.

If you take one thing from this article make it this - nothing says summer like a bare shoulder.

Do both off the shoulder and strapless styles at every opportunity. The look doesn't have to be OTT dressy either - try a casual jumpsuit, playsuit, maxi dress or structured bodice. Wear with your fashion kicks, brogues or a pair of sliders and you're golden.

There's something about a woman's neckline - that flash of collar bone - that is pure sexiness.

4. Mullet tops/ dresses.

This cut is perfect for those who like coverage over the derrière area. Shirt dress styles are great because you can wear them as they are or over boyfriend jeans/ leather skinnies with a good ol' Birkenstock.

There's heaps of styles on the high street (shift, sheer, collarless, tunic) and the look can definitely work in your favour.

5. Midi skirts

Mid-length is the length du jour, go for A-line or pencil styles and mix between print (geometric or floral) and block colours.

Pleats are pretty-making and you can't go wrong in super lightweight leather. Also, this cut is seriously flattering around the ankle area when worn with heels or flats. Tuck in your top or wear something cropped to really accentuate your waist.
