The humble bloody Mary has had a bit of a rebrand of late.

Once the beverage of choice for our grandmothers, now hipsters, foodies and everyone in between are now downing Bloody Marys like there's no tomorrow across the UK.

When we're not drinking these vintage cocktails in the hope that they'll cure our hangovers, we're gulping them down as part of a bottomless brunch and posting the evidence on Instagram.

The good news is that it's not difficult to make a fresh Bloody Mary at home for a fraction of the price. In the above video, chef Rich Harris from team Scoff shows us how.

Ingredients:

50ml good quality, ice cold vodka

Fresh tomato juice

Celery salt

Black pepper

Tabasco sauce

Worcestershire sauce

Fresh lemon juice

Freshly grated horseradish

Sticks of celery to garnish

Ice cubes to serve

Method:

Step 1: How To Season The Tomato Juice

Fill a highball glass with ice and pour the vodka over. Pour the tomato juice into a jug and season to taste with the celery salt, black pepper, tabasco, Worcester sauce, lemon juice and freshly grated horseradish.

Step 2: How To Serve

Pour the seasoned tomato juice over the vodka and stir gently with a celery stick to combine.

If you want to make someone feel truly special treat them to the unlimited champagne breakfast at the Villandry.

The surroundings are just the right mix of grand and comfortable (request one of the booths in the windows), which is a good thing as you'll want to settle in for some time.

The food is plentiful and your plates are refilled almost (but not quite) as often as your glasses.

First up is a selection of pastries, followed by a Full English or Vegetarian breakfast, and then comes the pièce de résistance a plate full of beautiful miniature cakes.

What's the deal?Booking is essential and there are two sittings every Saturday and Sunday: one at 12pm and one at - a slightly late for brunch, but perfect for the morning-after-the-night-before - 2pm.For £40 you get a dish from the brunch menu, a pastry, and a cake platter with unlimited coffee, orange juice and champagne.

Located slap band in the middle of Shoreditch High Street, this brunch-hotspot-cum-cocktail-bar-cum-chill-out-lounge couldn't be better located.

Its comfy sofas and fresh decor are super inviting, as are super energetic staff (maybe they put something in the water). The veggie full English (complete with bubble & squeak) was both sizeable and delicious, the poached eggs, chilli avocado and sourdough toast was tasty but a bit on the small size for £7.

The Northall remains a firm favourite because a) it is utterly stunning - the central restaurant has floor to ceiling windows which look out onto Embankment, and b) is swish enough for a special occasion, but not too intimidating if you end up using the wrong fork.

Dishes are gorgeous, quintessential British favourites such as roast beef and smoked salmon on brioche with scrambled eggs, but you also have some surprises such as heritage beetroot with balsamic crackle and goat curd.

There's a jazz singer on Sundays, which seems all rather wonderful after bottomless glasses of Perrier Jouet champagne. Hic! The staff are just lovely - so if you want someone to be spoiled rotten, this is a guaranteed treat.

If you're looking for a bottomless brunch with a touch of class, head to One Canada Square in the heart of Canary Wharf.

Try the classic Eggs Benedict or the scrummy soft-shell crab and you might just have enough room to squeeze in some cheeky rhubarb cheesecake.

Enjoy live piano music while the Prosecco and Bloody Marys flow. Bliss.

On weekends between later morning and early evening, this swanky members club turns into a haven for bottomless brunch lovers.

Once you find the place (it's a least 10 minutes walk from a number of central London tube stations), prepare to be faced with hoards of 20-something, brunch-loving, bellini-drinking London females. At least that was our experience.

Once you get over the fact that everyone looks the same, feast your eyes on the beautiful decor (wrought iron circular stairwell, tropical print upholstery, a huge stone fire place) and feast your bellies on the incredible brunch offering, from French toast bigger than door stop smothered in maple syrup and bacon, to lighter veggie options with hen's eggs and curried cauliflower.

What's the deal?Pay £17 for unlimited bellinis (flavoured with whatever fruit is in season, we had peach) or £16 for unlimited Bloody Marys. You've got 2.5 hours to get your drink on. Certainly more than enough.
