Facebook, James Bond, Batman and Circumcision were just a few of the names included on the Mexican state of Sonora's list of 'banned' baby names.

But Sonora is not alone.

Countries around the world have tried to nix the most objectionable name choices on the grounds that they may cause distress and embarrassment to the child.

And with good reason - you try finding a personalised gift shop coaster for little Woodstock, Lucifer or Smelly Head.

Some countries, such as Denmark, Iceland and Hungary, go even further when it comes to the issue of bizarre baby names, requiring parents to choose from a pre-approved list of acceptable first names.

See some more illegal names in the video above.

Despite every effort, though, some truly outrageous names have made the headlines. See some weird celebrity names this year in the slideshow below...

Liv Tyler welcomed her second child (but first with boyfriend David Gardner) in February and went for a nautical name. While Sailor might be a cute nickname, we think it sounds like an odd choice for a first name. However, the moniker is surprisingly catching on among celebs! In November, former “Hills” star Kristin Cavallari gave birth to her daughter Saylor James Cutler and Bristol Palin revealed that she’ll be naming her baby girl Sailor when she arrives in December. Blues Anthony Paré Kastner(02 of06)

This name shouldn’t surprise us, considering the fact that Beyoncé and Jay-Z famously named their daughter Blue Ivy in 2012. However, the name Blues is still an oddity. “Mad Men” alum Jessica Paré and boyfriend John Kastner chose this name for their son when he was born in March. Considering that Kastner is a musician, it’s likely the choice of moniker has personal meaning, but the couple has not yet revealed their reasoning. (credit:Larry Busacca via Getty Images)

Zooey Deschanel has always been known for her quirkiness, so we really aren’t that surprised she named her daughter Elsie Otter. While we love that the “New Girl” star stuck to her style with the name choice, we think the moniker almost sounds like a cartoon character. Deschanel welcomed her daughter with husband Jacob Pechenik in August. (credit:Greg Allen/Invision/AP)

Ashlee Simpson and husband Evan Ross followed the last names as first names trend to name their baby girl, but we’re not sure if it really works. Gaining inspiration from Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, the couple named their daughter Jagger Snow. Interestingly, the odd choice isn’t limited to the Ross family. Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun and his wife Yael Cohen welcomed a son in February and named him Jagger Joseph. (credit:Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)
Sistine Sabella James(05 of06)

Kevin James has four kids with his wife Steffiana de la Cruz. In January, the couple welcomed their youngest daughter and named her Sistine. While the moniker has a beautiful sound and harkens images of the Sistine Chapel, we’re not sure any nicknames really work with this pick, besides Sis. Interestingly, Sylvester Stallone also named one of his daughters Sistine back in 1998. (credit:Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)
Charlie Ocean Goldblum(06 of06)

Jeff Goldblum became a first-time father this year at the age of 62. The “Jurassic Park” star and his wife Emilie Livingston Goldblum welcomed their baby boy, Charlie Ocean, on Independence Day. While nature baby names are a big trend in Hollywood, Ocean is certainly a more unusual choice. During an appearance on “Conan,” host Conan O’Brien noted, “Ocean, that's a little out there.”Goldblum then responded, saying, “It is. But is it too out there? I love the ocean.” (credit:Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)
