The Met Gala is a fashion extravaganza unlike any other.
All red carpet events see celebrities and fashion insiders slipping into attention grabbing ensembles, but at the Met Gala the fantasy factor gets turned up a notch... and it is a feast for the eyes.
The evening, aimed at raising funds for Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City, was inspired by the Met's new exhibit, "China: Through the Looking Glass."
Ok, so the elaborate outfits aren't covetable in the same way as street style, as they'd be difficult to wear in your day-to-day life. But if you're going to have a gown custom made we imagine the word practical probably isn't high on your list of demands.
These are the dresses dreams are made of...
1. FKA Twigs in Christopher Kane dress
FKA Twigs, 27, topped the trend for hints of nudity, by proudly displaying genitalia at the top of her leg - not her own mind, but a cheekily positioned penis stitched into the lace of her multi-coloured Christopher Kane dress.
2. Rihanna in Guo Pei
Trains were de rigueur on the red carpet, but Rihanna, 27, made sure she stood out from the crowd by a country mile - literally, no one could get any closer to her for fear of treading on the trailing train of her canary yellow fur-trimmed cape.
Rihanna was one of the few attendees at this year's Met Gala to give a nod to the theme (China: Through the Looking Glass) by wearing a Chinese designer.
3. Solange in Giles
Red carpet necklines come in many different varieties, but this is the first time we have seen such an extreme sunrise neck - perfect for hiding your blushes behind when anybody tries to talk to you about last year's antics.
4. Anna Wintour and Bee Shaffer in Chanel and Alexander McQueen respectively
Met Gala co-host Wintour, 65, and her daughter Shafer, 27, both nailed two key Gala trends, red fabrics and floral prints - Shaffer added a third trend with a flowing train.
Wintour's poppy embroidered dress was originally seen as a mini dress on the Chanel runway, but was transformed into a full length gown for the Vogue editor.

5. Cara Delevingne in Stella McCartney
Delevingne, 22, went for an understated black silk jumpsuit, but she ensured she still made an impact by decorating her arms, chest, and neck with floral temporary tattoos.
6. Zendaya Coleman in Fausto Puglisi
Coleman, 18, wore a gown which paired a simple black velvet bodice with an elaborate sun embroidered crimson silk asymmetric mini skirt which billowed out into a full train behind her.
7. Rita Ora in Tom Ford
Ora, 24, accessorised her sleek, red georgette and satin Tom Ford gown with the designer himself.
8. Beyoncé in Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci
Beyoncé, 33, arrived fashionably late but she led the trend for barely there dresses.
9. Kate Hudson in Michael Kors
Gold floor length gowns are one of 36-year-old Hudson's go-to red carpet looks, but this one really stands out for us because of the gorgeous texture created by the hand-embroidered pailettes.
10. Katie Holmes in Zac Posen
Holmes's gown featured swirling dark clouds along the hemline and a pretty cut-out back. The 36-year-old's sleek new fringed bob also got everyone talking, as it is a stark departure from her usual wavy locks, but Holmes left people guessing whether she'd really gone for the chop or if it was in fact a wig.
