Miss BumBum Contestant In Intensive Care After Botched Cosmetic Surgery

Miss BumBum Contestant Hospitalised After Botched Cosmetic Surgery

A model who previously won second place in Brazil's infamous Miss BumBum competition is in intensive care following a botched cosmetic surgery procedure.

Andressa Urach gained an infection during a procedure to remove gel from her thighs that had previously been injected for cosmetic purposes.

The 27-year-old is now under sedation at Conceicao Hospital in the southern city of Porto Alegre.

Urach became famous in Brazil for having the second best derriere in the land during the 2012 Miss BumBum competition.

Ahead of the competition, the model had two fillers injected into her thighs - hydrogel and PMMA - in a bid to make her bottom appear more lifted.

But in July of this year she began to feel excruciating pain. Medical examination revealed her leg muscles had began to rot under the fillers.

Urach underwent a procedure to remove the fillers later that month, but reportedly continued to experience pain.

She was rushed to hospital last Saturday and doctors discovered an infection.

After two unsuccessful operations, the model went into septic shock on Tuesday and remains in intensive care.

To be declared "Miss Bumbum" takes dedication, according to Miss Bumbum 2013 Dai Macedo."It's a lot of work, a lot of devotion," Macedo told Agence France-Presse by way of an interpreter. According to the MailOnline, another Miss BumBum contestant Jessica Lopes, who shared a flat with Urach, said: "Andressa and I would go to the plastic surgeon as if we were going shopping. Sometimes we would agree to do some procedure together, we were not afraid. We were slaves to beauty."

In a statement, Urach's mother Marisete De Favari asked for the public to pray for her daughter.

She added: "I'm sure that my dear Jesus is wonderful and will cure it."
