New images of the moon landing sites have been released by Nasa.

The shots show clear details of three of the Apollo missions, including boot prints, the Apollo 17 moon buggy and driving tracks in the dust.

The images were taken by the Lucar Reconnaissance Orbiter which has been circling the moon since 2009. Previous images of the landing sites were taken but from a much higher orbit.

For these pictures Nasa brought the orbiter to within 25 km of the lunar surface, resulting in much higher levels of detail.

The images show the Apollo 17, 14 and 12 sites at a resolution of 25 cm by 25 cm per pixel.
