'Password' Is No Longer The World's Most Popular Password (But You Won't Believe What Is)

'Password' Is No Longer The World's Most Popular Password

'Password' is no longer the world's worst password - but only just.

A new study of the most used - and so most obvious and least secure - passwords has discovered that the old faithful has been gradually abandoned by lazy or forgetful internet users.

Unfortunately the password which has taken its place atop the list is not much better - '123456'.

Morgan Slain, CEO of SplashData who ran the survey, said it should be a reminder to think more carefully about how you try to protect your data.

"Seeing passwords like 'adobe123' and 'photoshop' on this list offers a good reminder not to base your password on the name of the website or application you are accessing," he told Sky.

"Another interesting aspect of this year's list is that more short numerical passwords showed up even though websites are starting to enforce stronger password policies."

Here's the full list of the most popular passwords, made by examining several huge lists of hacked and published passwords throughout 2013.
