Man Carries Injured Dog For Two Days After Crocodile Bite Leaves Pet Badly Injured

Crocodile Bites Man's Pet Dog, He Carried It For Two Days To Reach Emergency Vet

They say a dog is a man's best friend, and Wayne Best has proved that is nothing short of the truth.

After Best's dog Choco was attacked by a crocodile along a remote river in Australia, he carried him through the wilderness for two days to get him to safety.

The owner had been out hunting in north Cairns when his three-year-old pup was cornered by a pig close to the water, before a large crocodile jumped out and bit him.

Best told the Cairns Post: "It went for the dog and just got him by the arse end, picked him up and just shook him and then went under water. That was all that I saw of him."

Best said he grabbed his dog and pulled him onto the water bank.

Seeing as the nearest community was 100km away, the owner had no choice but to walk along the scrubs with his dog in his arms.

Best said he fed Choco painkillers and, when he became to heavy to carry, he let him hobble along for just short distances next to him.

The two walked 60km before they were flagged down by something with a car who drove the part of the way, walked a further 20km, hitched another ride, then were finally spotted on the road during the last stretch by a friend.

Choco immediately received emergency treatment and vets confirmed he had a broken left hind leg.

Best, who described his dog as being "family" to him, managed to raise enough money to help pay for the vet bill around £790.

An update from Cairns Post said the dog underwent surgery and is recovering well.

Best added: "I walked a long way for him, but I would have walked a million and one miles for him if need be."

Bless.
