But there's one particular element of the process that people are less likely to discuss: the reasons why they do it.

This new video from Refinery29 sees a beauty editor take a look at what's up with waxing - talking to the general public, feminists, psychologists and even pubic hair oil creators.

While last week's study looked at the risk of contracting the virus Molluscum contagiosum, it's certainly not the only sexually transmitted infection that waxing can up the risk for. "Any infection that requires contact to spread will be more easily caught if there is any damage to the skin in the area," Krant told HuffPost in an email. "This can be anything from obvious cuts all the way to microscopic torn follicle roots that aren't visible on the surface.
