James Baker is the Managing Director of BAE Systems Advanced Technology Centre. He is responsible for the delivery of BAE Systems’ corporate research activity, university partnerships and technology acquisition activity to deliver new capabilities and technologies to BAE Systems and its customers.

James holds a position on the joint Research and Development Group (ex National Defence Industry Council Research & Development Group) where he has chaired a number of sub-working groups including the Business Models Working Group – looking to develop innovative new ways of working to develop new capabilities through pulling through and exploiting R&D. He has also recently been elected a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Engineering an Olympic Legacy

Like the rest of the nation, I was gripped by the London Olympic and Paralympic Games. I've witnessed incredible achievements and developed a passion for sports like taekwondo, Keirin cycling and Finn class sailing that I hadn't seen before, but that had me on the edge of - and frequently leaping out of - my seat.
