There was a 30 year period in between the time my mum received her diagnosis and I received mine. While there is no doubt that treatment for endometriosis has improved, it doesn't seem that the process leading to diagnosis has, and this is so, so disheartening.
I understand that people are especially worried about the effect the show will have on vulnerable teenagers, but sadly, suicide is so prevalent in our society. As a teenager I, like so many others, had a Tumblr account. And, like so many others, as I was scrolling through endless pictures of cats, glitter and tattoos, I would come across pictures of self harm

I look in the mirror and stare at the parts of my body that don't match what I feel the ideal body looks like. I hope that when the zip is done up, suddenly I'll be transformed into one of the women I see in fashion adverts or on Instagram. Obviously, I'm disappointed. I pull and pinch the bits of skin that form rolls over waistbands, and that's when the tears start.
