Roy Wilsher

Chair of the National Fire Chiefs Council

Roy began his career in the Fire Service in 1981, in North London leading onto various roles there and the West End. In 1996, he achieved a 1st Class B.Eng(Hons) Fire Safety Engineering, becoming a Chartered Engineer in 2000. In 1998, Roy became Senior Divisional Fire Safety Officer, responsible for 11 boroughs in North and West London. Roy was project lead for the restructure of London Fire Brigade in 2001, and became Assistant Commissioner for Fire Safety in London in 2002. In 2004, Roy joined Hertfordshire as Deputy Chief Fire Officer and was appointed Chief Fire Officer in 2005. In April 2011, Roy took up an expanded role of Director for Community Protection and Chief Fire Officer for Hertfordshire, including county wide Trading Standards, Emergency Planning and the County Community Safety Unit. From April 2013 to March 2017, Roy was also Chief Executive for Hertfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.
