No student, whether an undergraduate or apprentice, should have to struggle to make ends meet while getting an education

The real struggle for students I speak to and those up and down the country is cost of living. Paying for ever rising rents, food and bills that are a necessity when starting life at university. These are the things that matter here and now and the government not addressing this or mentioning maintenance grants at all is the real injustice.

I sincerely hope that the government will choose to face up to reality and admit that it is wrong. They cannot choose to ignore students any longer. I hope that they will instead engage with us, so that, together, we can build a fairer, more accessible model for education funding - one that can genuinely deliver the kind of teaching quality and overall experience that our students really deserve.

I've been listening to conference, and conference has told me that NUS needs to change. When students turn to us, for help or support or arguments or ideas, they don't get it. And worst still, they're told they don't get it. People see an NUS more interested in infighting and factions than fighting fees. But the change starts here and the change starts now, because our NUS is gonna be different.
