An amateur video filmed to show "yoga has no size' has had more that 52,000 views and continues to grow daily, is inspiring curvy yogis to take up yoga.
I asked a friend to film this refreshing video in the hope that it would inspire individuals to start their yoga journey. I am pleased to say this is being achieved by the comments the video has been receiving.
Check out some of the comments:
"Woohoo! I'm so happy I found this video, I've been trying to do some yoga but as a big plus size girl some of the poses and transitions weren't working for me. Love the body positive message "
"I have been trying to do the skinny women's yoga and that just isn't working out! So, I decided to do a little more research and found this one thank you and I really appreciate this."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you. Whenever I search for yoga videos I rarely ever find any that showcase women with my body type. Usually it's incredibly fit or thin women and some of the moves they practice are hard to follow due to the fact they're not inhibited by the same fat around their thighs or on their backs etc. that I am. So much love to these beautiful women."
These comments clearly demonstrate there isn't enough videos available showing:
Curvy yogis doing and enjoying yoga - in an environment where they feel safe and comfortable to explore their practice.
Seeing examples of how their bodies will look in the poses, and modifications available.
It's not about being perfect, it's about the journey.
It's okay to fall out of a posture - getting back in is being yogi.
If all you do on the mat is breathe that's enough.
Showing that every BODY is entitled to enjoy the many wonderful benefits of yoga.
What you see is what you get "WYSIWYG", the video shows pretty much what you'll see and get in a CurveSomeYoga class. Learning self-confidence, self-love and so much more while having fun. This is the wonderful thing about yoga.
We should be providing more body positive yoga videos and images that encourages more people to be active.
It was so refreshing to see Inspirational yoga Dan Falsetti - on the cover of the July issue Om Yoga and Life Style Magazine. Showing some of the UK media are starting to make this much-needed change.
Let make yoga more appealing and accessible one mat at a time.
The video was made with the help of bloggers:
Lorna Campbell @thegingerpear
Sharon Davis @radfatfeminist
Lauren French @laurenfrench
Lucia Morris @ucanwearthat
The video proves that #yoga has no size. Showing the bloggers having fun and enjoying their practice. Sharing their yoga experiences, previous perceptions and how it has changed.
It is hoped the video will get more individuals to experience the many benefits of yoga.
