But there’s nothing stopping you channelling a sense of A-list haute couture with one of these fashionable monikers.

Chanel

This French name, usually used for a girl, originally meant “dweller near the canal”. It’s more likely to conjure up images of classic designer, Coco Chanel.

Valentino

The Italian form of the Latin Valentinus, means “healthy” or “strong”. The Italian clothing company Valentino was founded in 1960 by Valentino Garavani.

Armani

The name Armani comes from the Italian, meaning “freeman”; or the German, for “warrior”. Giorgio Armani founded the luxury Italian fashion house.

Kenzo

The name Kenzo comes from the Japanese, meaning “wise one”. Kenzō Takada, a Japanese-French fashion designer, founded the brand that bears his name.

Dior

The name Dior, which means “present”, comes from the French. French fashion designer Christian Dior died in 1957.

Salvatore

Salvatore Ferragamo, who died in 1960, was an Italian shoe designer and the founder of the luxury goods brand. The name Salvatore means “saviour”.

Dolce

This Italian name means “sweet” or “pleasant”. Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana was founded in 1985 by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

Cavalli

Cavalli is an Italian surname, meaning “horses”. Roberto Cavalli is an Italian fashion designer and inventor, famous for exotic prints.

Estée

Estée Lauder was an American businesswoman who co-founded her beauty brand with her husband, Joseph Lauter. The name means “star”.

Versace

Versace is a southern Italian surname. The Italian luxury fashion company was founded by Gianni Versace in 1978.
