Good news if you’re trying to encourage your little ones to read, Amazon has unveiled a new Kindle e-reader, designed especially for children.
The new Kindle Kids Edition comes with a protective case and a one-year free subscription to a child-friendly Kindle book store, Amazon has said.
Costing £100, the retail giant has incorporated a variety of different features to improve your child’s reading and vocabulary skills, including; achievement badges to earn for reaching reading goals, a definition tool called Word Wise and a Vocabulary Builder that automatically adds looked up words to a library and creates flashcards of them for future learning.
It’s available to buy from 30 October – perfect timing for Christmas, but you can pre-order it now here.
Amazon hopes to take the stress from parents when it comes to their child’s reading experience, according to the retailers’ head of devices in the EU, Eric Saarnio: “We build kids’ products from the ground up, with three ideas in mind: first, kids want a device experience designed just for them; second, parents don’t want to worry about the content their kids are viewing; and third, parents want tools they can trust to help manage their kids’ device usage,” he says.
Along with the new Kindle, Amazon has also announced a new tablet, called The Fire HD 10 Kids Edition, specifically aimed at children. Costing £199.99 and available at the end of October, but able to pre-order now, according to Amazon, it’s the largest and fastest tablet it’s ever made.
