Boxing For Buhinga: The Fight Club Diaries - Week 8

On Tuesday for some reason Jacek our trainer thinks it's pertinent to mention that each time you get punched in the head a few of your brain cells die. Lovely. A few of mine reach the end of the line when Lora punches me right on the nose.

I'm still on the hunt for an opponent for the night of the 24th of November. Details here if you're interested

Boxing For Buhinga: The Fight Club Diaries. Week 8

Disaster strikes this week- Lora finds out she can't fight on the night due to medical reasons - she's going to be having a (routine) surgery a couple of weeks before the fight and thus isn't going to be in a position to be getting in the ring. I am gutted that we can't get to the end of this together but we resolve to find someone else to fight on the night and keep training together. I feel like we've come too far to give up now, and the boys (luckily) agree so the search is on for a girl who can fight me in November.

On Tuesday for some reason Jacek our trainer thinks it's pertinent to mention that each time you get punched in the head a few of your brain cells die. Lovely. A few of mine reach the end of the line when Lora punches me right on the nose. I'd forgotten I'm at a work event the next day - luckily my injuries aren't visible, not sure how I'd explain that away. Rather pleasantly when you get punched in the nose your entire face hurts for a couple of days (I should know this as I once smacked myself in the face with my own front door and was convinced I'd broken my nose ...yes yes I know) .

I decide it's time to invest in a head guard - as the boys are spending most weekends sparring and it's about time I got used to it. I fail to realise you have different sizes of them (I repeat yet again - WHO KNEW!?) so my colleague Gail has to measure my head circumference with the ingenuis combination of the headphone lead from her ipod and a ruler (we don't work for one of the fastest growing companies in the UK for nothing you know). We think my head is a medium size. I'm not sure whether to be pleased about that or not.

Merciless one is oddly complimentary of my progress this week - and for once I'm starting to see some changes myself - well either that or my gym kit is suffering some severe fabric stretching, - it's starting to look baggy! So I'm still hardly jumping for joy when I get on the treadmill- but there are certainly some things that I could never have done a few weeks ago that are coming a little bit easier now. It dawns on me that this is in fact what happens when you go the gym...eventually you get a little bit less wheezy...feeling like you're dying...sweaty...is this what it feels like to get fitter?
