Today was a big day in the world of Downing Street coronavirus briefings as it was announced they would no longer be held every day – something at least one person appeared to take advantage of a little too early.

Towards the end of Boris Johnson’s segment, his on-screen sign language interpreter appeared to give up while the PM was still speaking, inviting a mystery person off camera to go for a drink instead.

Where this drink was to be we’re not quite sure – although Johnson has announced pubs will be reopening, they won’t be allowed to let punters in until July 4.

Cinemas, restaurants and holiday accommodation in England will also be able to open from the same day if they are “Covid-secure” under plans announced by Johnson.

No.10 also said on Tuesday ministers would continue to hold briefings only when “significant announcements” are made.
