Are You a FAT Therapist Claiming to Help Fat Clients?

Over the last few weeks, meeting new clients I have heard some horror stories regarding a profession that is unregulated and obviously unmonitored.

You really couldn't make it up.

More and more people I support are informing me that they previously attended hypnotherapy only to find the hypnotherapist was fatter than they were. To be honest it comes as no surprise as the profession is now saturated with practitioners, some of whom have probably done little more than a weekend's training course.

Over the last few months I have debated this with colleagues who in the main agree that if a hypnotherapist is fat then they should not be treating fat clients.

Too damn right!

Given hypnotherapy is about the power of suggestion it makes the profession a laughing stock when you hear stories about hypnotherapists being fatter than their clients. You can compare it to a client coming for support to stop smoking only to find the hypnotherapist is smoking in front of them, or the client desperate to overcome a phobia of spiders to then hear the hypnotherapist explain that they are also terrified of spiders.

For me these types of practitioners could not inspire the thirsty to drink water.

So if you are considering visiting a clinical hypnotherapist for weight loss here are three pieces of advice:

1. When you call them, ask how tall they are and how much they weigh. If they are obviously fat then move on and find another practitioner.

2. Ask for evidence that they get results. There can be no excuse for a hypnotherapist not being able to show you several before and after photos of clients they have supported.

3. Ask the hypnotherapist how they inspire their clients to lose weight. If they are too airy fairy you are probably not going to lose a single ounce so move on.

Don't get me wrong there are hundreds of excellent hypnotherapists out there but as for the fat ones treating clients for a weight condition; well I wouldn't pay them in washers.
