KFC Vegan Chicken Burger Is Coming – And It's Not Because They've Run Out Of Chicken Again

Here's where you can get it.

You may remember the dark days of February 2018 when KFC ran out of chicken. Now, customers of the fast food chain will be having meat-free meals once again – only this time, it’s intentional.

KFC is the latest fast food joint to jump on the vegan bandwagon and serve its first ever vegan burger – known as the ‘Imposter’ burger, which sounds incredibly similar to Burger King’s ‘Impossible’ burger but nevermind.

The Colonel’s kitchen is finally embracing the plant-based movement with the new dish: a Quorn fillet coated in the original recipe herbs and spices, alongside iceberg lettuce and vegan mayo. You can also get it as a wrap or a salad.

On its own, the burger is £2.99 – with a drink, it’s £3.49. For those who have recently given up meat, there are no more excuses for being drunk and ‘accidentally’ ordering popcorn chicken.

Victoria Robertson, described as a “chief vegetable enthusiast” at KFC UK and Ireland, said it’s “unfair” vegans haven’t been able to experience the “incredible taste” of KFC up until now. She says they’ve been working hard to perfect the recipe.

The burger is being trialled for four weeks in selected stores in Bristol, London and the Midlands from 17 June. A new vegetarian creation is also being trialled from 15 July in the same locations – the Southern Fritter Stacker, a mix of vegetables in a crispy coating, will be available as a burger, wrap and rice box.

Dawn Carr, director of vegan corporate projects at PETA, said: “We’ve been so excited to hear about this and play a part in KFC’s journey to reaching this game-changing new vegan range. We’re confident it will be a huge hit with the skyrocketing numbers of vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians around the UK.”

If you’re eager to taste the new burger, you can get it at the following locations in Bristol: Fishponds, Bradley Stoke, Winterstoke Road, Eastgate retail park, Avonmeads retail park, Shield retail park, Keynsham, Hengrove leisure park and the venue Cribbs Causeway.

In the Midlands: at Birmingham Great Bridge retail park, Bloxwich Leamore lane, Cannock Orbital retail park, Tamworth Ventura retail park, Tyburn Kingsbury road, Walsall Junction 10 M6 services, Walsall park street, Dudley Merry Hill food court, Stourbridge St Johns Road, and Dudley Merry Hill Drive Thru.

And in London at the Gloucester Road KFC branch.
