Kylie Minogue has said there will be tears when she takes to the Glastonbury stage, 14 years after she was forced to pull out of the festival.

The Australian singer had been lined up to headline the event in 2005, but had to cancel her appearance after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

She is now set to playing the “Legends” slot on the Pyramid Stage this Sunday, and for Kylie, it is set to be an emotional occasion.

Speaking to The Mirror, she said: “I will remember what happened those years ago and my overriding feeling will just be of gratitude and, how fragile life can be.

“Will there be tears? Absolutely. Let’s just say I will be wearing waterproof mascara.”

Recalling having to previously pull out of the festival, Kylie continued: “I would have been one of the only female solo artists in the festival’s history to headline.

“I really thought I missed my opportunity and, as the years went by, I said to myself, ‘Well this just isn’t going to happen’.”

However, Kylie later returned to the festival to make an appearance during the Scissor Sisters’ set in 2010.

Kylie is following in the footsteps of Lionel Richie and Dolly Parton by playing the “Legends” slot at this year’s festival.

She announced her performance last year, writing on Twitter: “It will be 14 years since I was originally meant to appear there and so much has happened up to now. I can’t wait to see you all there to share this special show.”

The set forms part of her current summer tour in support of her latest Greatest Hits collection, which will also see her headline Brighton Pride in August.

This year’s Glastonbury is being headlined Stormzy, The Killers and The Cure.
