Kylie Minogue will be laying down her vocals on a different kind of track this week, as she becomes the voice of the railway.
The singer is set to make platform announcements as part of BBC Music Day on Friday.
Kylie has recorded a series of messages to be played at stations in Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester and Reading, encouraging commuters to share their love of music.
She says in one of the announcements: “Please let passengers sing and dance their way off the train first before trying to get on board.”
Of course, Kylie is no stranger to the railways, having launched her singing career in 1988 with a cover of ‘The Locomotion’.
Speaking of her latest journey, she said: “I truly believe in the power of music to bring joy and lift the soul.
“Hopefully my little messages for train passengers will be a nice surprise and a reminder of the power of music.”
Also making station announcements will be Dame Vera Lynn, Chic legend Nile Rodgers, choirmaster Gareth Malone, saxophonist YolanDa Brown, 90s R&B star Gabrielle, 80s pop star Lisa Stansfield, singer/songwriter Nina Nesbitt, gospel star Wayne Ellington, Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, classical star Carly Paoli and indie rockers Blossoms.
BBC Music Day aims to “celebrating the power of music to change lives”, with a range of events and activities planned across the UK, with coverage on BBC TV and radio.
