Disney’s The Little Mermaid Live! event debuted in America on Tuesday night and went off almost entirely without a hitch – apart from one unfortunate slip-up, that is.
John Stamos played Chef Louie in the live version of Disney’s classic film, which took place in honour of its 30th anniversary, and during an off-script moment, he turned to camera and joked that he should have been cast as Prince Eric.
The only trouble is, that’s not quite how it came out.
After his rendition of Les Poissons – during which his character was hit with flour – joked that “I knew I should have played Prince Albert”, before quickly correcting himself.
Unfortunately, the damage was already done, and viewers quickly picked up on his very rude slip of the tongue.
Responding to one who tweeted “did @JohnStamos say Prince ALBERT?”, John responded: “I did! Not sure where it came. (kids don’t google Prince Albert).”
He explained: “I ad-libbed in dress rehearsal after getting pelted with flour, ‘I should have played Prince ERIC’ but for some reason ALBERT came out - oh well.”
Never mind, John. That kind of thing can happen to anyone during a live broadcast, just ask EastEnders star Jo Joyner…

The Little Mermaid Live! starred Moana actress Auliʻi Cravalho as Ariel, while Queen Latifah appeared as the villainous Ursula and Shaggy played Sebastian the crab.
A new live-action film version of The Little Mermaid is also in the works, with production set to begin early next year.
Grammy-nominated singer Halle Baldwin has been cast in the lead role, with Melissa McCarthy widely rumoured to be taking on the role of Ursula.
