The Sexism At The Heart Of American Politics. Listen To Running Mate, Our US Election Podcast For Brits

The eighth episode of our podcast about November's vote asks whether there will ever be a female president.

Running Mate is a US election podcast – just for Brits. In our eighth episode, we look at the sexism ingrained in politics in America, which has never had a female president or vice president despite other countries being run by women for decades.

Host Graeme Demianyk speaks to HuffPost reporters Alanna Vagianos and Marina Fang about the misogyny that blighted Hillary Clinton’s run for the presidency in 2016 – and how Donald Trump is using the same tropes against Democratic Party vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Will there ever be a female president when America punishes women for traits that voters accept – or even like – in male politicians?

We also chatted with Daniel Marans, another HuffPost reporter, about last week’s vice presidential debate between Harris and Mike Pence, and how Trump’s right-hand man attempted to put a professional politician’s gloss over the administration’s failings. And we also talked about the fly.

Listen to the eighth episode of Running Mate above. There’ll be a new episode to download every Monday – find it by searching for Running Mate on any good podcast platform, and get involved in the conversation on social media by using our hashtag #HPRunningMate.
