Stormzy has revealed that the stage outfit he wore during his Glastonbury set was designed by the mysterious British artist Banksy.
On Friday night, Stormzy won huge acclaim for his headlining performance on the Glastonbury stage, winning praise from viewers as well as fellow musicians like Giggs, Drake and Adele.
In addition to his own music, Stormzy also gave a platform to the UK dance company Black Ballet and the London-based fashion brand Trapstar, as well as entering the stage at the beginning of his set in a black stab-proof vest, emblazoned with the British flag.
Writing on Instagram, Stormzy revealed that the vest was actually created by Banksy, writing: “Last night I headlined Glastonbury in a stab-proof vest custom made by the greatest, most iconic living artist on planet earth, the one and only BANKSY.”
Banksy also posted about the collaboration on his own Instagram, writing: “I made a customised stab-proof vest and thought - who could possibly wear this? Stormzy at Glastonbury.”
In the comments, Stormzy wrote back: “You’ll never know what this means to me. I feel like I am dreaming this is all a dream. Honoured, grateful, thank you, I don’t have any words for this… tears of joy.”
During the set Stormzy was joined on stage by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, as well as fellow chart-topping British rappers Dave and Fredo.
So far, 2019 has been a huge year for Stormzy, who is gearing up for the release of his sophomore album – the follow-up to his number one debut Gang Signs & Prayer.
In April, he unveiled the album’s lead single Vossi Bop, which ended up landing him his first number one in the UK singles chart.
Shortly after this, he unveiled second single Crown, in which he celebrated his success and took a moment to address his detractors, mainly those who criticised the Cambridge scholarships for black students that he helped put together.
