Jason Bell has become the second star to be eliminated from the current series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The former NFL player’s exit probably won’t come as a shock to too many fans, after he wound up at the bottom of the leaderboard in Saturday night’s Movie Week special.

He and partner Luba Mushtuk landed just 12 points of a possible 30 for their Paso Doble, inspired by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In Sunday night’s results show, it was revealed that the pair were in the dance-off alongside Nicola Adams and Katya Jones, who had been second from bottom the previous night.

After each couple danced again, all three judges opted to save Nicola, meaning it was Jason who had to say goodbye.

He told presenter Tess Daly: “This was an opportunity of a lifetime. I had so much fun, thank you Luba. You have worked so hard with me, you’re a great friend for life and I appreciate all that you’ve done, I really do.

“I’ve had such a good time here. Everybody is wonderful. I mean really this is amazing – this is a brilliant place! This is the best group of people ever, this is amazing.”

Luba told Jason: “You really bring the joy to my life, and I am so honoured and proud to be partnered with you. I now have a friend for life.

“I just want to say, to be actually able to do this show…shout out to everyone who makes so many sacrifices to make this happen. It is such an honour to be here and I’m very proud of you.”

The remaining 10 couples will return for next week’s live show, airing on Saturday night at 7.10pm on BBC One.
