Teenager Arrested After Girl, 12, 'Raped In Sheffield Woodland'

The alleged offence occurred in the Richmond Heights Woods.

A teenager has been arrested in connection with the reported rape of a 12-year-old girl in a Sheffield wood.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to the Richmond area in the early hours of Sunday.

An extensive search was undertaken as part of the woodland was sealed off.

A force spokeswoman said the incident was reported just before 3.35am on Sunday and is said to have occurred in the woods at around 2.30am.

She said a 16-year-old Sheffield boy had been arrested on suspicion of rape and remained in custody.

Temporary Detective Inspector Tom Woodward said: “As we continue with our inquiries into this incident, I would like to ask for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area in the early hours of Sunday morning to contact us.

“The girl and her family continue to receive support from specialist officers and we are continuing with our inquiries to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and provide reassurance in the area.

“If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us or speak to a local neighbourhood officer.”
