These Memes Of The Amazing Black Hole Are Why We Don't Deserve Nice Things

The pinnacle of scientific achievement meets Twitter.

Unless you’re currently stuck inside a black hole, you’ll have no doubt heard news that scientists have unveiled a groundbreaking first image of what one actually looks like.

An international team of astronomers revealed the image in a press conference on Wednesday, captured using a global network of telescopes dubbed the “Event Horizon Telescope”.

The image shows the boundary of the monster black hole, which measures 40 kilometres across and has a mass 6.5 billion times that of the sun.

There was much mystery surrounding the unveiling, which shows a ring of fire, slightly blurry, but wildly impressive nonetheless.

However, like most things in life these days, the image provided endless fuel for the meme factory that is Twitter...

...such as this nugget.

Cosmic vision. A blessing.
