'Strictly Come Dancing' Results: Tameka Empson And Gorka Marquez Leave Competition

'You two shouldn’t even be here. Both great performers, you gave it all you had.'

After a close dance off, Tameka Empson has become the second celebrity to be axed from the current series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

Tameka and her professional partner Gorka Marquez went head to head with Laura Whitmore and Giovanni Pernice in Sunday’s (9 October) results show, after failing to impress the public with their Movies Week performance.

Once each couple performed their routines again, the judges each admitted that it was a tough decision to choose between them, with Craig Revel Horwood even branding the situation a “nightmare”.

He said: “I don’t feel like I have been in this position before. To be honest I can normally make a very clear decision but both couples were extraordinary.”

However, he ultimately chose to save Laura and Giovanni, as did Bruno Tonioli, who told the two couples: “You two shouldn’t even be here. Both great performers, you gave it all you had.”

Darcey, meanwhile, opted to keep Tameka and Gorka in the competition, with the deciding vote going to Head Judge Len Goodman.

Len said: “As Bruno said in my opinion neither should be in the dance off but that’s the nature of the thing. But I’ve got to go with the couple that I felt did the more polished performance and that’s Laura and Giovanni.”

Tameka insisted that she’d had a ball throughout her short time in the competition, saying: “The costume, the hair, everybody. There are just so many people. Every department shows a lot of love and you guys watch it at home but it’s really lovely to be a part of it and I’m grateful so thank you.”

The remaining 13 performers will be back in Saturday’s (15 October) live show, at 6.30pm on BBC One.
