Wood Green Fire: Blaze Engulfs Block Of Flats In North London

Some 20 people have been evacuated as 70 firefighters tackle blaze.

Some 20 people were evacuated from a block of apartments in north London after a huge fire engulfed the building.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to a building containing maisonettes on Acacia Road in Wood Green just before 10pm, according to the London Fire Brigade.

Some of those evacuated needed breathing apparatus, and three people required ambulance treatment, the brigade said in a statement. They did not require hospital treatment.

Footage posted on social media shows flames coming from the top of the building.

A brigade spokesman said the blaze had been brought under control two-and-a-half hours after firefighters arrived at the scene.
