BBC Radio 2′s Zoe Ball is “supersized giddy” after new listening figures revealed she has held on to the audience of previous Radio 2 Breakfast Show host Chris Evans.

The presenter took the helm of the station’s flagship show in January, and has attracted an average weekly audience of 9.05 million in her first three months in the job.

This figure was almost unchanged from Chris’ last three months as host, where he was pulling in 9.07m.

In a statement, Zoe said she was “supersized giddy” to have so many listeners, adding: “It was such a gift to be asked to follow Chris and Sir Terry (Wogan) as host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show but also a great responsibility,” she said.

“Thanks to the listeners for giving us a chance and for getting so involved in the show’s antics.

“We can’t wait to embark on more adventures together”.

Meanwhile, there was also good news for Chris’ new Virgin Radio Breakfast Show.

The Rajar figures show he has grown the audience to just over one million during his first three months on air.

He said: “Last year, I said I wanted a new mountain to climb. And the view from the top of the News Tower isn’t half bad.

“But really this is just base camp. I’m back in my spiritual home and loving every minute of it.”

Elsewhere, Radio 1′s Breakfast host Greg James remained steady, dipping only by 67,000 listeners to 5.04 million compared to the previous three months.
